osCommerce/ZenCart Compatibility

Hi all,

We have received a few emails from osCommerce users recently asking if their compatibility issues between osCommerce and osCommRes. Well the short answer is yes. osCommerce is a simple products only e-commerce system. osCommRes is a much more featured platform. Features like payment gateways from osCommerce can be easily integrated with a few minor modifications. osCommerce templates have to be modified a fair bit to cover the extra parts including events services and restrictions.

The new osCommRes backend will be completely incompatible with the osCommerce backend because the menu system is quite different and the page content is also very different and improved. The best way to convert from osCommerce to osCommRes is to import data into the osCommRes database. (We will be releasing a script for this in the next month.)

The answer is more or less the same for ZenCart even though it is a much better system than osCommerce.

I hope this clears this up.

Cheers,

Damian

Hi Damian,

I see you wrote this for more than a year ago, but I haven't found this/those scripts yet - after searching for some time.

Also back in November 2007 you wrote:

into this release but we have a nice upgrade script working now. So all the osCommerce and ZenCart store owners who want to migrate to Freeway will be able to do this very easily.

Only thing I found was that it was on roadmap for March 2008, and that it's completed - but where can i download it?

Or is it included in the core of Freeway, and if so -how can we use it? I have so fare not found it in installation nor in admin, and not in any docs?

Is there anything I have overlooked some place, if that's the case I'm sorry for asking and hope you can point me in right direction ...

Hi there,

Just look in Products > Advanced > Import Products.

I personally have not used it but we did some fixing with a forums user who seemed to have success with it.

Cheers,

Damo

Hi Damian,
Sorry, this answer was not much help ....

I still don't know anything about witch files it's importing, formating etc. - I don't see any instructions for using it.

Another thing is that this is not a migration script, it's just a plain product import. No customers and no orders ... disappointing.

Anyway, we need to know how to use the product import if it should be of any help.

Thanks.

Anyone who can tell us how to make the needed file for import of products from osC/ZC?

Perhaps also make a dummy file as reference?

Hi there,

We have a customer Import process so if there is a tool to export customers from osC/Zen, you could use that perhaps.

The import process of products uses a MySQL connection to the osC/Zen database. First export from the osC/Zen system:

Products > Advanced > Products Export.

Then do an import:

Products > Advanced > Products Import.

I hope this helps,

Damo

Hi all,

Please be aware I am new to freeway...

I have tried to import my products etc from my zencart store but keep running into problems.

Can anyone please tell me how I go about doing this..

I am using the latest version of freeway.

I have tried importing sql, csv and froogle txt via the product import in the admin and via phpmyadmin without any success. (the import page does not say which format to use)

Do I have to modify these before I import them? I use a zen_ prefix in my sql and unsure if this the problem.

I look forward to using freeway..

Hi,

The easiest way to do this is to add a product manually using the admin back end and then export the sql for the tables products, product attributes and products to categories. I can't remember off hand the exact table names but you will get the gist and then reformat your exported zen table to match the import requirements.

Does that help or do you want more detail?

Cheers

Richard

Hi Bruce,

If you get stuck let me know as I had plenty of fun trying to use the import tool and working out how to do it. Using the SQL export route gives you the sql code for adding the information back again. I forgot a couple of things though that are quite important.

You will need to manually add the images and match the images to the products. Depending on the number of products this can be a real task. If the products have a reference in your zen cart and you are intending to use the same then it is only a question of putting the images in the respective images folder under root.

You will need to make sure that your product ID matches across all 3 tables and you will need to have created product categories before you import the products or at least before you add in the products2categories values.

The best way to do this or at least the route I have taken is initially to export your product table into a spreadsheet and then align the columns as you need then you can export as csv. Using a text editor is best for doing mass changes of values as you will probably need to do... and you can cut and past from there into the sql command box for readding.

Note I never use the phpmyadmin import tool as you are never quite sure what is going on. With the sql command feature you have much more control. Also using sql do not forget to slash apostrophes(\') otherwise it throws up errors.

I think that should be enough to make it possible.

Cheers

Richard
