i started translating openfreeway to finnish language few days ago, currently im planning to translate public side of the webshop for start. i have few questions:
are there any good guides for translating freeway? where from can i change texts in header search & login box?

You can find that texts of language definitions from the following files:

File Names:
--------------

…/freeway/includes/languages/english/freeway_english.php
…/freeway/templates/Freeway/main_page.tpl.php

Really happy to see that Finnish translation has been started!

I'm also going to use the Freeway as my eCom-platform and will happily debug the translation if any is available.
