OK, it appears that the new template system is fairly well embedded in the new version of Freeway... and I had a couple issues with a legacy template that I tried to import in to the new version... so:

I'd like to convert my template to use the new system (which looks really nice, by the way... much better anyway than any other osCommerce based templating system I have ever seen...)...

Should I convert now... or wait till the full 1.5 release?

Any tips or hints?
